Jamari Brown, a Nashville native, has spent the past 12 years working with corporate, legal, life science, music, technology, and other local businesses throughout Tennessee. Through his previous experience as Nashville’s lead economic developer he brings a knowledge of commercial development, government red tape, and incentives assistance programs which aids with controlling, forecasting, and reducing cost. Whether evaluating a building purchase, office relocation, lease renewal, sublease, or expansion, he builds strategic solutions focused on the client's needs.
In 2019, Jamari Brown joined the Office of Mayor Briley as the Director of Economic and Community Development. In this role, Jamari led efforts to recruit and grow businesses, retail, residential, and commercial development, while aligning workforce and affordable housing development efforts in Nashville. Additionally, he served as executive director of the Metro Nashville Industrial Development Board (IDB) and responsible for working with the IDB board members to manage Nashville’s incentive and development portfolio.
Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office, Jamari began his career with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development in 2008 as an intern before being promoted to an enterprise specialist in 2010. In 2011, Jamari then was promoted to the position of business development consultant for Northern Middle Tennessee. In 2015, Jamari then was promoted to the position of director of business development. Since 2011, Jamari has led 70 clients have announced more than 13,000 jobs and investments of $2 billion dollars in Tennessee.
